British tennis player Liam Broady recently stated that Manchester United footballer Mason Greenwood should be permanently banned from playing professional football again.

In January 2022, Greenwood was arrested and subsequently charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Following his arrest by the Greater Manchester Police, his club, Manchester United, suspended the 21-year-old. Several other organizations, such as Nike, stopped sponsoring Greenwood, while EA Sports stated that they would remove him from their FIFA games.

The most recent development came on February 2, 2023, when the Crown Prosecution Service dropped all charges against him, citing the withdrawal of key witnesses and "new material that came to light."

Broady, a former Australian Open Boys' Doubles winner, turned to social media to reflect on the issue and criticized the UK justice system by calling it "inept."

"Mason Greenwood should never be anywhere near a professional football club ever again. Just goes to show how inept the criminal justice system is in the UK. We’ve all heard the recordings," Broady tweeted.

The Brit further expressed his displeasure with how the case unfolded. Broady also talked about how influential people get away with such abuse allegations because of the "broken system."

"Makes me sick for how this sort of a high profile case could affect other people suffering from abuse. CPS the richer you are the more you get away with. Broken system," Liam Broday wrote.

As of now, Greenwood has been denied permission to return to training by English football giants Manchester United.

Liam Broady made his way through to the main draw of the 2022 Australian Open. However, the Brit's journey was put to an end by Australian Nick Kyrgios, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3, in the opening round of the Major.

At the Dallas Open, the 29-year-old once again earned his main draw qualification through the qualifiers. Broady was shown the door by Marcos Giron in the Round of 16 of the ATP 250 tournament.

Having received direct entry to the Wimbledon Championships, Broady showed signs of improvement in his form as he beat 12th seed Diego Schwartzman 2-6, 6-4, 6-0, 6-7(6), 6-1, in a five-set thriller in the second round. However, his run was cut short as he faced defeat at the hands of Alex de Minaur in the next round.

Liam Broady also reached the quarterfinals of the Tel-Aviv Open where he pulled out ahead of his clash against Marin Cilic with an abdominal injury.
