Caroline Garcia is the top seed at the 2023 Monterrey Open.

The 2023 Monterrey Open is one of two WTA tournaments taking place this week. It will be held from February 27 to March 5.

World No. 5 Caroline Garcia is the sole top 10 player in action and leads the pack as the top seed. 2022 Wimbledon quarterfinalist Marie Bouzkova is seeded second, followed by 2023 Australian Open quarterfinalist Donna Vekic as the third seed.

Elise Mertens rounds out the top four seeds, while Leylah Fernandez, the two-time defending champion, opted not to participate this time around. Most top players have chosen to rest as a couple of WTA 1000 events are right around the corner.

Nevertheless, this edition of the Monterrey Open features a rather solid field with some well-known names in the mix. Here's all the relevant information regarding the tournament:


What is the Monterrey Open?

The inaugural edition of the tournament was held in 2009 and has since been a regular fixture on the WTA tour. Classified as a WTA 250 event since its inception, quite a few top players have made the trip here to rediscover their form.

Grand Slam champions Marion Bartoli, Ana Ivanovic and Garbine Muguruza are some of the former winners here. The tournament is contested on outdoor hardcourts and features a 32-player draw.

The Monterrey Open will be held at Club Sonoma in Monterrey, Mexico.

Caroline Garcia leads the top half of the draw and will begin her campaign against Kaja Juvan. She could meet either Camila Osorio or Mayar Sherif in the quarterfinals.

Elise Mertens will take on youngster Diana Schnaider in her opener, while Camila Giorgi was drawn against a qualifier. 2022 Wimbledon semifinalist Tatjana Maria will square off against Lucia Bronzetti in the first round.

Marie Bouzkova and Donna Vekic headline the bottom half of the draw. The former is up against Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the opening round, while the latter is set to face a qualifier.

Schedule

The qualifying matches will take place over the weekend, with the main draw action set to begin on Monday, February 27. The first and second-round matches will continue until Thursday.

The quarterfinals and semifinals are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, respectively. The title round match will take place on Sunday, March 5. The doubles final will begin at 2:00 pm local time, followed by the singles final at 4:00 pm.
