The prize money for the winners of the 2015 French Open increased

The trophies that get handed out to the Men’s and Women’s Singles winner at the French Open

The prize money at the 2015 French Open has been increased to more than €28m while both the Men’s and Women’s Singles champion will get a prize money of €1.8m. That is now an overall rise of €3 million and a €150,000 increase in the money that Rafael Nadal and Maria Sharapova got for winning at Roland Garros last year

However, the biggest beneficiaries of the increase in prize money are those who will be eliminated in the early rounds of the tournament. Players, who get knocked out in the second and third rounds, as well as the quarter-finals will get paid 20% more than 2014.

Off all the 4 Grand Slams in the calendar year, the French Open is the one which is the least rewarding, in terms of prize money. The Singles champions at the Australian Open, this year received €2.16m while the winners at Wimbledon received a sum of €2.36m in 2014. Marin Cilic, who won the US Open last year, got €2.82m for his triumph at Flushing Meadows.

The French Open begins on the 19th of May in Paris.
