Sania Mirza out of French Open

Sania Mirza, India’s only hope in the French Open Women’s Singles has crashed out of the tournament this year in the second round against 12th seeded Agnieska Radwanska of Poland in straight sets 6-2 6-4. Sania never looked to upset the 12th seed, and the match was over in one hour and 16 minutes.

Sania failed to end her French Open 2nd round jinx

The World Number 72 was always going to have a tough match, but going by her recent form, pundits expected her to give a good fight. It was not to be as Sania was never in control, as she made 42 unforced errors as compared to her opponent who had just 18 of them. After Sania’s loss, India’s hopes in the singles category came to an end as Somdev Varman bowed out earlier in the first round to Ljubicic. Sania has failed to go beyond the 2nd round of any Grand Slam since 2009, and has never ever been to the the third round at Roland Garros. Sania has once again proved that she fails at clay courts, and the hard courts remain her strength.

Sania’s campaign at Roland Garros is not completely over yet as she and her partner Elena Vesnina have reached the second round of the women’s doubles. India is still alive in the doubles category, but Somdev’s campaign is definitely over as he and his partner from Taipei crashed out of the Men’s doubles event in straight sets
