World No.1 Serena Williams clinched an incredible 20th Grand Slam on Saturday, after defeating an extremely spirited Lucie Safarova 6-3 6-7 6-2 in the Final of the 2015 French Open.

Battling an illness, the 33-year-old American convincingly clinched the first set, smashing 4 aces as compared to Safarova’s 0 and also managing to convert 12 out of her 15 1st ServePoints as compared the Czech Republican’s 11 out of 19. Serena also converted the lone net point opportunity that she received.

Set 2 saw the Czech Republican stage a sensational comeback after being 4-1 down in the second set, to win the next 4 games to make it 5-4 in her favour. Safarova converted 31 out of her 46 1st Serve points and also won 6 out of her 15 2nd serve points to clinch the second set in a tie-break 7-6.

Third Set saw Safarova break the American in the first game to pile up further pressure on her opponent but a first double fault by Safarova in the fifth game proved to be vital as it helped bring the set back to level terms at 2-2.

That deadlock was broken by Serena in the following game and there was no looking after that for her as she romped home to a 6-2 third set win, that helped her clinch her third French Open title and 1st one after 2013.
