Stan Wawrinka continued his good run of form at Wimbledon with a 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 win against Fernando Verdasco.
Wawrinka broke Verdasco in the tenth game of the opening set as the Spaniard double faulted on set point. The Swiss was impressive on his first serve winning 94 % points off them. With just 5 unforced errors and 11 winners, Wawrinka wrapped up the first set without giving a single break point opportunity to Verdasco.
The No. 4 seed got the edge in the second set at 4-3 when he broke the Spaniard’s serve with couple of brilliant winners. Verdasco tried to break back in the next game as he took Wawrinka to deuce, but an overhead smash follwed by an ace down the T by the Swiss gave him a two set lead.
Verdasco saved three break points in the first game of the third set to deny Wawrinka an early lead. The Spaniard failed to convert two break point chances and was eventually broken in the ninth game when he netted his backhand on break point.
Wawrinka sealed the match with an ace. It was a clinical performance by the World No. 4. He will face David Goffin in the fourth round. The Belgian beat No. 11 seed and last year’s semifinalist Grigor Dimitrov 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.
