Tomic to appeal to Wimbledon officials to curtail his father's ban

During a news conference, Bernard Tomic gave vent to his frustration by lashing out at the ATP for banning his father from the tournament.

While assault charges against his father are still pending, the Australian player said that he is planning on appealing to Wimbledon officials to let his dad into the stadium for the player’s next match.

Tomic, 20, who was fully spent after his tiresome and exhausting first round victory over 21st-seeded American Sam Querrey on Tuesday, had to spend his post-match interview answering questions about his father and coach – John Tomic.

The senior Tomic has been restricted from entering the Wimbledon grounds while a separate case in which he is accused of physically attacking Tomic’s hitting partner has been postponed until October by a Madrid court.

While Tomic, who is easily regarded as Australia’s most promising young player, is still basking in the glory of his victory, he has said that he is not going to let his father take the ban sitting down.

Last month, the Grand Slam tournaments, keeping in terms with the ban, did not allow Tomic Sr. at Roland Garros. At that time, Tomic had maintained that he did not want to discuss about the incident in Madrid.

But since his Wimbledon victory, he has taken a different approach by accusing the ATP of rushing to judgment in the case.

ATP spokesman Simon Higson refrained from making a comment and instead referred to a statement issued earlier in which John Tomic’s suspension was explained in details.

“It’s very difficult to play a match, the biggest tournament we have in tennis, not to have your coach there or your father who has been there throughout your whole life,” Tomic added. “I’m going to stand by my decision, I think the ATP did the wrong thing.”
