Wilson launched its latest make of racquets, equipped with Spin Effect Technology (SET), with an event marking the launch at the Cricket Club of India (CCI) in Mumbai on Thursday, 9th April 2014. Spin Effect Technology mainly refers to the string pattern of the racquets which are quite different from the traditional racquet strings.

SET racquets have 16/15 and 18/16 string pattern as compared to the conventional string patterns of 16/19 and 18/20 which account for lesser space between SET racquet strings and thus allows players to generate more power and spin on their shot-making without them having to alter their grip or swing or any other facet of their game. Wilson is the first racquet manufacturer to come up with such a technology to enhance the players’ existing tennis skills by providing them with such handy technological substantiations.

According to Rohan Gajjar, senior manager and product specialist for Wilson India and former Indian Davis Cup member, “The generation of additional spin and pace apart, SET racquets also allow players for better clearance over the net and decrease the margin of errors in their shots. Also, since the space between the racquet strings is reduced, it enables players to move in a bigger area and hit the ball a lot deeper into the court.”

In order to demonstrate the functionality of the SET racquets, during the launch of the event an actual demo was carried out with the help of Trackman, a device that was specifically brought in from Europe to track and compare the statistics between shots hit with SET racquets and non-SET racquets. The demos were quite successful with Mr. Gajjar observing that the SET racquets generate more than 200 revolutions per minute (RPMs) on the ball.

“Technology is moving faster in the game. Through Trackman, the efficiency of SET racquets was satisfactorily vouched for”, he added by way of further explanation. Wilson is presently equipping SET in 98, 99 and 100 square inch racquet frames. These racquets fall in line with the company’s goal to ‘own spin’ this year in which it will also be celebrating its centenary anniversary.

These racquets are equally effective on all playing surfaces and can be used by the players without any deviation to their natural game. At the event launch held at the CCI, also present were Mr. Rajesh Batra, Chairman of Cravatex, who presented a memorabilia to tennis star Mahesh Bhupathi, and also Cravatex CEO, Rajiv Wallia, Sharmin, photographer, Commercial Director, Amer Sports (Asia Pacific) and Ivan Chin, Commercial Manager, Wilson Racquet Sports (Asia Pacific) and Ankur Shrivastav, Business Development Manager, Amer Sports India.

Bharat Oza, Executive Vice President and Secretary General for AITA and Nandan Bal, former Davis Cup player and ex-Davis Cup coach tried out the new racquets at the event.
