Fred Kerley has been the talk of the track and field town ever since he challenged Usain Bolt's long-held 100m world record. The American recently said he was feeling great like he once used to, getting his energy level stimulated for the Paris Olympics 2024.

A few days ago, Kerley took to his X account to say he would break the 100m world record next time he runs the event. The record stands at 9.58 seconds and is held by the Jamaican track and field legend, Bolt. Kerley's personal best is 9.76 which he clocked in 2022.

In this season, his best is 10.03 which is the 19th best in the world. However, the American athlete is feeling confident and has shared a tweet about the same on his X account.

Focusing on the 100m world record claim and getting amped up for the Paris Olympics 2024, Kerley said he is feeling like old times. The tweet read:

"Feeling like old time Greatness baby."

The recent competition of Fred Kerley hasn't turned out as expected. He has not clinched gold this season and has lost to two of his arch-rivals, Noah Lyles and Christian Coleman.

A brief look into Fred Kerley's rivalry with Noah Lyles

The feud between two American sprinters Fred Kerley and Noah Lyles began during a news conference ahead of the start of the World Championships in 2023.

The 3-peat champion shared a note on his social media handle on August 10, 2023, revealing his goal for the 100m and the 200m in the World Championships. He stated he would run 9.65 seconds in the 100m and 19.10 in the 200m.

When Kerley was asked about this, he said (via ESPN):

"I'm Fred Kerley, this is my title. If Noah's going to run 9.65, then I'm running faster."

To this, Lyles replied:

"That's what they all say 'til they get beat."

This race was won by Lyles as Kerley was knocked out in the semi-finals of the World Championships itself. Recently, Kerley opened up about the fierce competition between the American sprinters vying for the Paris Olympics podium.

In a conversation with Pulse Sports, Fred Kerley said:

"The rivalry is always good like competing with all the best in the world and the best is actually in the USA so you have to run 9.8 and 19-something seconds to make the final squad so it’s all about being there at the right time."

The 2024 US Olympic trials will be held from June 21 to 30, and all the elite American athletes will be locking horns to earn their ticket to Paris.
