Asian Volleyball Cup: South Korea beat India in the final

The Indian volleyball team put up a valiant fight in the final of the Asian Volleyball Cup before going down to a spirited South Korean side 23-25, 21-25, 25-27 in Almaty, Kazakhstan on Sunday. India had beaten No. 11 ranked Iran 20-25, 29-27, 31-29, 27-25 in the semifinals.

The Indians showed flashes of fightback in the first and third sets, but the Koreans were too good and didn’t let India come back into the match. Still, this was a good result for India, who are ranked 37th in the world.

In the third-place playoff, hosts Kazakhstan beat Iran 25-23, 17-25, 25-19, 25-16 to win the bronze medal. China finished fifth by beating Japan 3-1.

The competition also serves as the qualification tournament for 2015 World League.
