It’s high fives all around for the curlers from Canada.

Sochi, Feb 21 (IANS) Canada won the women’s curling gold at the Winter Games with a 6-3 win over Sweden here.

Victory Thursday made Jennifer Jones’ Canadian team the first women’s squad to win gold undefeated in the tournament, matching Kevin Martin’s men’s team’s achievement in Vancouver 2010, reports Xinhua.

“It’s just crazy and amazing. It’s a dream come true. We just had the best week of our lives. We are gold medallists,” said the 39-year-old Jones.

The defeat ended Sweden’s run of gold in women’s curling that stretched back to Torino 2006 and also continued Margaretha Sigfridsson’s record of losing major world finals. She lost gold but added an Olympic silver to her four World Championship runner-up medals.

“Of course, it’s disappointing. I know we won silver but it really just feels like we lost gold. I think it will feel better in a little while. We will be happy eventually,” she said.

Canada could become the first team to sweep the men’s and women’s titles at a single Olympics when the men’s team take on Britain in the final Friday.
