Former Liberia captain John Menyongar training with Dempo after Lajong contract termination

Former Liberia national team skipper John Menyongar is currently training with I-League champions Dempo after the termination of his contract at Shillong Lajong FC.

Menyongar, whose first Indian club was United Sikkim, did well for Shillong Lajong last term and even played for them in the Federation Cup and in a couple of I-League games this season.

But things didn’t work out at Lajong and Menyongar’s contract was terminated after a mutual agreement a few weeks back.

The 32-year-old highly skilful player has been training with Dempo for a week to remain fit and it will be interesting to see if the Goan giants make a move for him in January.

Former Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur player Rohan Ricketts hasn’t been a regular in Armando Colaco’s team and unless he settles anytime soon, the five-time Indian champions could be forced to look at alternatives.

Dempo are also yet to use their Ghanaian defender Stephen Offei in the I-League while Nigerian striker Koko Sakibo is currently out with a long-term injury. As a result, Dempo have only one fit foreigner who is used to Indian football and that is Japanese Ryuji Sueoka, who has had a great start to the season.

Menyongar’s style would also be ideal for the Dempo brand of football but it was learnt that for now at least he is only training with them to maintain his fitness.
