Dunga, Roberto Carlos part of Brazil Masters team to play in Kolkata

Brazil’s 1994 World Cup winning captain Carlos Dunga, 2002 World Cup winner and Real Madrid legend Roberto Carlos and one of the stars of the 1994 World Cup, Bebeto, will be the star attractions of the ‘Brazil Masters’ side that will play an exhibition match in Kolkata on Saturday, December 8.

They will face an ‘All Stars’ team, that will be assembled by the local football association of West Bengal, IFA, although it will also feature former Colombia goalkeeper Rene Higuita, who was best known for his ‘scorpion kick’ clearances.

After weeks of speculation, the names of the former Brazilian World Cuppers were officially announced in a press conference on Monday. The former greats are expected to arrive in Kolkata on Friday, when they will also have a training session at the Salt Lake Stadium.

Some of the other Brazilian greats who will feature in the game include Deportivo La Coruna great Mauro Silva, legendary AS Roma defender Aldair, ex-Middlesbrough player Juninho Paulista and former Barcelona player Edmilson.

The match will kick-off from 2 pm at the Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday, with ticket prices ranging between Rs 200 and 499.

Organisers are also optimistic of keeping some of the Brazilian greats until Sunday so that they can witness the big Kolkata derby between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan.

The IFA All Stars team is likely to be a mixture of former and current Kolkata-based players, with Mohun Bagan’s very own Brazilian legend Jose Barreto also likely to play for them.
