London Paralympics - Performance of Indian Players on 2nd September and Schedule for 3rd September

Discus Thrower Jaideep

On day 4 of the London Paralympics four Indians were in action. The first Indian in action was the Discus Thrower Jaideep. Jaideep Singh Deswal hurled the Discus to 39.77m in F-42 category of the Discus throwers and finished 7th. Jaideep was unable to improve on his performance from last Para-Games as he also finished 7th at the Beijing Paralympics. Jaideep who won the Gold medal at the Malayasian ParaAthletics Championships in April 2012 was not in the best of the touch at the highest level of the games. Davies Aled of Great Britain won the Gold with a throw of 46.14m, the Silver went to Iranian athlete Mehrdad Karam while the Bronze Medal was won by Chinese Athlete Lezheng Wang.

The second Indian who competed on the 4th day of the games was the Arjuna Awardee Powerlifter Rajinder Singh Rahelu. Rahelu finished last in his 67.5 kg wt. category as he fouled on all the three attempts he got. Rahelu attempted 175 kg in his first attempt but failed to lift the bar, he was unable to lift the bar in his second attempt and also in the third attempt. Gold Medal of the event was won by China, Silver by Iran and Bronze by Egypt

The third Indian who was in action was the Javelin Thrower Narender Ranbir. Narender Ranbir participated in F-44 event of Javelin Throw. F 44 event is for those athletes who have a single below-knee amputation. Athletes with normal function in the throwing arm and slightly reduced function in the legs or slight balance problems compete in this event. Narender finished 6th out of the 10 Throwers with a Personal Best Throw of 49.50m.Gold Medal of the Event was won by Chinese athlete Gao Mingie with a throw of 58.53m, the Silver was won by French athlete Tony with a throw of 58.21m while the Bronze went to Dutch athlete Ronald Hertog with a throw of 55.83m.

Girisha Nagarajegowda in the High Jump- F42 at 4.20 PM.

Sharath Gaekwad in the 50m Freestyle Swimming- S8 at 4 PM. The finals of the same are at 30 minutes past midnight (technically 00.30 AM on 4th September).
