What's the story?

India's very own Deepa Malik has done the nation proud once again by achieving a glorious feat of sealing the top spot in discus Asia Ranking 53 category and the second spot in the Asian Games combined category (51/52/53). Not only that, Deepa managed to secure her career-best throw of 8.01 meters on the second day of the ongoing World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2018 being held in Dubai.

In case you didn't know...

The 47-year-old Deepa Malik has been known to face many odds and emerge victorious in every battle. She is one of India's most decorated athletes, winning the silver in shot-put F-53 event at the 2016 Rio Paralympics where her 4.61m throw led to her win. She also became the first Indian woman to win a medal in the Paralympics.

Deepa is not daunted by her life confined in a wheelchair and has been an accomplished swimmer, an ardent adventurous sports junkie, biker, et al. She has also commendably made her way into the Limca Book of Records four times.

The heart of the matter

Securing the top Asian spot in the Asian Games discus throw, Deepa Malik has once again done the nation immensely proud. By booking her place in the top berth, she has qualified for the 2018 Asian Para Games which are going to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia from the 16th to the 18th of October, later this year.

It makes the nation incredibly proud to see Deepa winning so many accolades for herself and bringing home glory and fame.

What's next?

The 2012 Arjuna Award recipient for her brilliant achievements as a swimmer, can be safely expected to continue with her dream run. The October-held 2018 Asian Para Games will see her vying for more medals and even more records.

Author's take

It's so wonderful to have women like Deepa Malik in our nation. Plagued by a spinal cord surgery in 1999 which left her paralysed, life has never been the same for Deepa but she sure knows how to make the most of odds. Undaunted by the challenges of life and age, she continues to battle and win. She is a true inspiration for everyone, winning laurels far and above.
