GWS Giants midfielder Tom Green revealed how his father, a retired helicopter in the Australian Army, has helped him in the game of footy. The 23-year-old stood out in his side's 54-point thrashing of Brisbane Lions on Anzac Day.

Green's father was in attendance at the Manuka Oval and witnessed his son record a goal, seven clearances and 37 disposals. The victory puts the Giants 6-1 and second in the table after seven rounds of games.

After the game, Green honoured his father (via Wide World of Sports):

"My dad is here. I hope he enjoyed the night. I'm sure he'll have some work-ons for me, no doubt."

He also spoke about how his father's role as a serviceman influenced his game.

"It brings you really tightly together as a family group, you're sort of moving every two years. It develops your social skills, you've got to make friends every two years, so it's put me in good stead since then."

The son of a serviceman, Tom Green moved a lot with his family living in multiple towns like Townsville, Darwin, Tamworth, Melbourne and Toowoomba. However, they settled in Canberra when he was 11, where he began his journey in footy.
