The incident occurred when Jeremy Renner was at his residence in Tahoe and was spending time with family during the New Year’s holiday when a friend’s car got stuck in the snow. Renner used a Sno-Cat—a snow-removing vehicle that weighs almost 14.5 thousand pounds—to clear his friend’s path.

When he was successful in removing the vehicle from the snow, he got out to inspect, but it started rolling. He jumped into the driver’s seat, but it ran over him as he tried to stop it. Renner was airlifted to the hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit. Doctors later revealed that Renner suffered blunt chest trauma and leg injuries.

One of Jeremy's friends told Radar Online that the accident had been life-threatening.

"It was much worse than anyone knew. Jeremy is very aware of the fact that he almost died out there. The right side of his chest was crushed, and his upper torso had collapsed. He also had a bad head wound that was bleeding, and a leg injury."

The actor's friend told news.com.au,

A source close to the situation revealed that Jeremy’s injuries were so severe that he may require reconstructive surgery, and his recovery could take up to two years.

Another insider revealed to Radar Online that:

“Word is the damage to Jeremy’s chest was so substantial it had to be reconstructed in surgery. So far, he’s had two surgeries and he will likely require more in the weeks ahead on his leg. Doctors tend to space out operations to allow time for the body’s natural healing process to kick in, and that’s the case here.”

The actor has been posting positive messages about his recovery on social media. However, he still faces an uncertain future as doctors do not know whether he will be able to walk again.
