When Neil deGrasse Tyson told Joe Rogan why Christopher Columbus was a "d*ck"

During episode #1159 of The Joe Rogan Experience (JRE), American astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson explained why he thought the Italian explorer Christopher Columbus was far from the heroic figure history made him out to be.

The Princeton University alum explained to Rogan that Columbus once tricked some primitive islanders into giving up their food, using his advanced knowledge of science.

The 64-year-old elaborated that Columbus, with his understanding of lunar patterns, made the natives believe that they would bring divine wrath upon themselves if they didn't share their food grains with the explorers:

"If you need more reasons to think Columbus was a d*ck, let me add one to it... It was [during] his third voyage. He has to get back to Spain... but he doesn't have enough... food for his crew. Columbus knew that one week hence there was going to be a total lunar eclipse... the moon, if you can see it at all, a deep red-amber hue, almost the color of blood... He says to the natives if you do not give us food, my God... will make the moon disappear and it will turn blood red... Within seconds of this beginning, they bring him all the resources he wants."

The astrophysicist added that history doesn't tell us what happened to the islanders without their food surpluses during the subsequent winter.

When Neil deGrasse Tyson blew Joe Rogan's mind by explaining why some infinities were bigger than others

While this might not come as a shocker to anyone who has seen the movie 'The Fault in Our Stars', some infinities are indeed bigger than others.

During episode #919 of JRE, Neil deGrasse Tyson explained to UFC commentator Joe Rogan why some infinities are bigger than others. The astrophysicist stated that mathematically there are five levels of infinity:

"Some infinities are bigger than others... Not all infinities are the same size... For example, the number of counting numbers 1,2,3 up to infinity, the numbers you would use to count things, that's infinite. The number of irrational numbers... there are more of those than counting numbers. There are orders of infinity... And they use the Hebrew letter alef (ℵ) in ranking the [infinities]... There is 5 levels of infinity."
