“Going to be with him for the rest of his life” - Mike Florio extends his sympathy to Bengals' Joseph Ossai, who committed game-sealing penalty against Patrick Mahomes

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 yesterday to advance to the Super Bowl, where they will face the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Chiefs took the lead in the final seconds with a 45-yard field goal converted by kicker Harrison Butker.

Before the kick, Bengals defensive end Joseph Ossai committed a personal foul penalty on Patrick Mahomes as he shoved the quarterback when he was out of bounds, resulting in a 15-yard penalty for the Chiefs to set up Butker's field goal attempt.

ProFootballTalk analyst Mike Florio discussed the situation and expressed his sympathy for Ossai.

"But the Joseph Ossai late hit on Patrick Mahomes. I feel so bad for the kid. And this is a play we've seen time and again, where quarterback becomes runner, and in theory loses all protections. But we know we know how it goes, running back gets hit a step onto the stripe.''

Florio added that Ossai is always going to have to live with the mistake he committed in yesterday's game.

He continued:

"It's a rock and a hard place for Joseph Ossai. And it's all happening at full speed. And he's 22 years old. And I'm just heartbroken for the kid."

"It is going to be with him for the rest of his life. And I just feel horrible for this kid. And he's a kid… 22 is just barely out of college, barely into adulthood. And he's got to deal with this. And I just feel bad for him. Because he's in a tough spot."

Joseph Ossai's teammate stuck up for him in the locker room during post-game interviews

Following the loss, Ossai was swarmed by the media in the Bengals locker room. However, defensive lineman and teammate B.J. Hill stuck by his side during the tough moments.

"Dumb question. Come on. He played his butt off the whole game," Hill said. "Ask a different question."

Ossai recorded five tackles, including one for a loss, a pass breakup, and two pass deflections, but he will be known for the penalty he committed that pushed the Chiefs closer to their win.
