Dalton Schultz's Texans contract: How much will former Cowboys TE earn in 2023?

Free-agent tight end Dalton Schultz is off the open market. The Dallas Cowboys tight end has agreed to a one-year deal with the Houston Texans.

Schultz was one of the best tight ends to hit the market this offseason and is leaving Dallas after five seasons. He was drafted by the team in 2018 and was a productive tight end the last three seasons. He's recorded 198 receptions and scored 17 touchdowns over the last three seasons.

Per NFL insider Albert Breer, he turned down a three-year $36 million offer from the Cowboys at one point in free agency. He bet on himself to make more money on the open market and will lose out on a long-term deal as he settled for a one-year, $8 million deal with the Texans.

He was a possible franchise tag candidate for Dallas, but the team used the tag on running back Tony Pollard instead, leaving Schultz an unrestricted free agent.

Last season, he played on the franchise tag. He earned $10.9 million on the tag last season and has made $15.8 million in his career.

He caught 57 passes for 577 yards and scored five times.

Schultz's current Madden 23 rating is an 83 overall, according to maddenratings.com. He has maintained an 83 overall the entire season since the launch of Madden last summer.

In the game, his special attributes are Possession Archetype and has a Long Stride High and Tight Running Style.

As of now, that is the 11th-highest Madden rating for tight ends. Schultz will be catching passes from one of the top quarterback prospects in the draft as the Houston Texans hold the No. 2 pick in next month's draft.
