Russell Wilson gets clowned after only half of Broncos squad made it to birthday party

Russell Wilson's time in Denver so far has been nothing short of bad. Since swapping the Seattle Seahawks for the Broncos, Wilson has not been the player that many thought he was.

Denver was seen as a genuine Super Bowl contender with Wilson at the helm. But through 11 games this season, Denver is rock-bottom of the AFC West with a poor 3-8 record. The playoffs are already out of the question, with many now thinking that Wilson has lost the locker room.

Now, there is some evidence to back up those thoughts. Per Mike Kils, who covers the Broncos for 9NEWS, Wilson had a birthday party to which only half the team showed up. The response from NFL fans was, as you'd expect, roasting the quarterback.

There’s been some gossip about Russell Wilson’s standing in locker room. Here’s some context. Per source Wilson’s wife Ciara thru him a birthday party last night and “it looked like about half the team was there.” On player’s day off. Why do people have to be so hurtful? #9sports

Denver's struggles this season lie right at the feet of the former Seahawks quarterback. Many feel that his time with the Broncos is already nearing its end. But the birthday party exile from half the team has certainly gotten the attention of fans on social media.

@mikeklis Half? Wow, that's your Captain and your "Franchise QB" everyone should've been there. That tells a lot. Not everyone is happy with Russ.

@mikeklis You can dislike a guy and still want to be around his hot wife
@mikeklis . . . the man never has a hurtful thing to say about anyone, yet people come after him so ruthlessly. Sad.
@mikeklis So, you are saying only the defense showed up for him, again?
@mikeklis Half didn’t show up? Ouch. Locker room is lost.

@mikeklis @MileHighReport Haha this is not working the way you thought it might
@mikeklis Because it’s not the first time his relationship with teammates has been in question. It’s not like this is new. And if anything, his off-field presence has gotten more cringey and put a bigger spotlight on him. And his teammates got that matter.

@mikeklis The only thing RW has been successful with in Denver is building and promoting his personal brand. I don’t think that means much to Broncos fans who want to get back to being a winning franchise.
@mikeklis Surprised half showed up the way he still thinks he owns the place with that office where he is all the time instead of with the team. Need someone to come in and take him off his pedestal.

It appears that most Denver fans are in agreement over their new quarterback and the reported locker room troubles. Unfortunately, the length of Wilson's contract means the franchise is stuck with him for the foreseeable future.

Can Russell Wilson turn it around in Denver?

Likely not this season. With Russell Wilson being 3-7 on the season and only throwing eight touchdowns and five interceptions, season 2022 looks like a lost cause.

But as we have seen several times, when a player moves to another team, there is time needed to adjust to the new environment. Unfortunately, for the former Seahawk, the Broncos are in the "win now" mindset, so this year has been a huge waste.

That is not to say that next season, with another preseason to work on the offense and the players, the 34-year-old can't turn things around. However, as far as this year goes, Denver is dead in the water.

Given the size of the quarterback's contract, many suggest that he can't be moved. So it might have to be first-time head coach Nathaniel Hackett who falls on his sword.

Either way, this season has not gone the way many expected and Wilson and Hackett have seen their careers take a significant dent in the public eye.
