Courtland Sutton has been one of the few positives from what has been a bad start to the season for the Denver Broncos. The fifth-year pro has had a bounce-back season. He entered the Week 6 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers with at least seven targets and 52 yards receiving per game.

Sadly, another poor Denver performance curtailed Sutton's productivity in the match. He was limited to only three targets (of which he caught two) for a mere 14 yards in the 19-16 overtime loss. Sutton deserves better than what the Denver offense is giving him, and he should have more plays drawn for him, as he is quite the threat in the passing game.

The crux of the matter is this: Sutton is the number one receiver on a team with Russell Wilson at quarterback. It can only get better as they build a relationship and chemistry. Denver have started badly and will get desperate quickly. That means more aggressive playcalling and more targets for Sutton.

Sutton has shown some of the potential that made the Broncos sign him to a four-year $60.8 million contract extension just last year. He is currently 24th in the official fantasy wide receiver rankings, and above every Denver receiver by a wide margin. If Wilson is going to throw the ball at a deep threat, it has to be him.

Sutton might have had a rough game at the Los Angeles Chargers, but even the best players have bad days. This doesn't negate their ability. The Broncos take on the New York Jets next and we hope for a better performance.

Courtland Sutton's tenacity and expert route running ought to make him a solid fit on most offenses, which is thanks to his high football IQ. The Southern Methodist University alum is quick, tall and has great hands.
