Patriots Hall of Famer believes Tom Brady could reunite with Bill Belichick in 2023

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady has not had the best of seasons. His off-field issues that led to his divorce from Gisele Bundchen to the Buccaneers' on-field struggles have all pointed to a troubled season.

So, could Brady want out in order to go back to where it all began? According to former New England Patriots offensive lineman Matt Light, the idea might not be as farfetched as it sounds.

Light was on The Greg Hill Show and was asked about the possibility of Brady returning to New England to end his storied career.

Light said:

“I wouldn’t put anything past him. I mean, the guy wants to win, and he knows how to do it with a guy like Belichick. I think he has seen the differences now. He only played for Bill. Then he goes down to Tampa, and he’s had a couple of head coaches down there now. You know, he could conceivably come back and want to be with a proven winner. That would not shock me at all.”

With the Athletic reporting on a possible reunion between Tom Brady and the Patriots, one of his former offensive lineman, Matt Light, weighs in on the topic. #Patriots #ForeverNE

Light's comments will certainly raise the collective eyebrows of the NFL community. Many have thought that the door back to New England for the 45-year-old would be closed forever in a playing sense, but perhaps there could be one final twist in Brady's NFL career.

Could Tomm Brady really return to the Patriots?

If we look at this purely from a footballing perspective, then the answer is no. Belichick and the Patriots have now invested time into making Mac Jones the franchise quarterback of the future.

Having made the playoffs last season, the Patriots under Jones are currently 6-5 and still in the playoff hunt. Given that the quarterback is only in his second year, it would be foolish to hamper his development by a returning 45-year-old quarterback.

Now let's look at it from a nostaglia point of view. New England is where the seven-time Super Bowl champ enjoyed unbridled success. Several division titles, MVPs, Super Bowls, you name it, the 45-year-old won it in New England.

There would be something special about the quarterback returning to finish his career with the organization that gave him a chance when no one else would.

It is unlikely to happen as Jones is now the starter, but potentially having Brady back in a Patriots uniform sure is fun to think about.
