NFL Rumors: Odell Beckham Jr. reevaluates contract demands after 32 team snub

Odell Beckham Jr. remains one of the top available free agents wide receivers during the 2023 NFL offseason.

While he clearly holds value for the upcoming 2023 NFL season, he is rumored to have been overestimating his own worth in seeking a new team to play for and was reportedly seeking a contract worth nearly $20 million dollars at the beginning of the free agency period.

Beckham apparently realized that he was asking for way too much money as no team expressed any interest in his desired price tag. He's reportedly lowered his demands after initially striking out in free agency and is now allegedly being more reasonable in his contract requirements.

Apparently, the market has spoken, despite this year's class of free agent wide receivers being relatively weak.

Update: WR Odell Beckham had asked for $15-20 million a year from NFL teams earlier this offseason but has reduced that figure now that he realizes teams aren't willing to pay him that much, per @diannaESPN

Odell Beckham Jr. has a case for being the best available free agent wide receiver in 2023, which may be why his initial asking price was so atronomical.

He was likely trying to capitalize on a weak market, but no team bit on his alleged tactics. His market is likely to heat up at some point if his asking price is more in line with his value, but he does carry more risk than most other potential options.

Why is Odell Beckham Jr. still a free agent in 2023?

Odell Beckham Jr. comes with more baggage than most other available wide receivers during the 2023 NFL free agency period. He's now 30 years old and coming off a major knee injury that required extensive surgery.

The injury is the main reason why he hasn't played football in over a year, sitting out the entire 2022 NFL season while mostly recovering. The last time Beckham entered an NFL game was all the way back to Super Bowl LVI for the 2021 season.

He recorded a touchdown reception for the Los Angeles Rams, directly helping them win the ring, but suffered a devastating ACL tear during the game. His relative old age as a skill position player and severity of his recent injury history make him a risky signing at his apparently high price tag.

Another issue to be aware of with Odell Beckham Jr. is that he's had a bit of history of controversial exits from his previous teams. His time with the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns ended up a bit messy, so signing him could potentially come with more drama than most other players.

There were no reported issues with his departure from the Rams, so maybe he's grown out of that phase. Nevertheless, it could potentially cause some teams to hesitate to give him the large contract he's apparently seeking during the 2023 NFL offseason.
