Who has the most Super Bowl losses in the history of NFL?

The NFL is one of the toughest leagues as each playoff round game is decided in a single game context. Even teams with an outstanding winning record in the regular season have no guarantee of making it to the Super Bowl.

Even though the NFL has been around for over a century, only a few teams have won the Super Bowl. The New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers have each won six Super Bowls, the most in NFL history. But do you know which team has lost the most games in the NFL Championship games?

The New England Patriots top both the winning and the losing list. The franchise has won six titles but has also lost five Super Bowl games. They share this record with the Denver Broncos. The Patriots also have the most Super Bowl appearances (11) in the league.

During the 1985 season, the Patriots made their first Super Bowl appearance. They qualified for the playoffs with an 11-5 regular-season record. In Super Bowl XX, they faced the Chicago Bears and were defeated 46-10.

New England got the opportunity to play in the Super Bowl eleven years later but again lost to the Green Bay Packers 35-21. The last three losses came in the era of Tom Brady, where they lost to the New York Giants twice (2007 and 2011) and once against the Philadelphia Eagles (2017).

The Denver Broncos have made eight Super Bowl appearances and lost five title games, the same as the Patriots. The Broncos made their first Super Bowl appearance in 1977 against the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys defeated them 27-10.

In 1983, the Broncos drafted legendary quarterback John Elway, who led them to five Super Bowl games. The Broncos lost their first three games (1986, 1987, 1989) against the Washington Redskins, the New York Giants, and the San Francisco 49ers. Elway and the Broncos won the Super Bowl in 1997 and 1998.

The most recent Super Bowl loss came in the 2015 season when the Broncos suffered a 48-10 loss against the Seattle Seahawks.

The Buffalo Bills have appeared in four consecutive Super Bowl games (1990-1993) under the leadership of quarterback Jim Kelly. The Bills dominated the AFC in the '90s but couldn't win the title. They lost to the New York Giants (1990), Washington Redskins (1991), and Dallas Cowboys (1992 and 1993).

The Minnesota Vikings also appeared in four Super Bowl games in 1969, 1973, 1974, and 1976 and lost all of them. They lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Oakland Raiders.
