Not all WrestleMania matches should be handed a rematch at next month's Backlash event

3 WrestleMania rematches that should happen at Backlash and 2 that shouldn't

WrestleMania 37 is now in the rear-view mirror but it appears that several of the feuds that should have been wrapped up at the biggest show of the year will now be extended to next month's Backlash event.

There's a reason WWE has called their next show WrestleMania Backlash and as of writing, the only match that has already been announced is a WWE Championship rematch between Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley.

Several other stars are expected to be granted a rematch as part of the show, which is scheduled to take place on May 16th. Whilst there are a handful of matches that do need a rematch to end their feud, there are several of the 14 matches that took place at WrestleMania that shouldn't be given another shot.

The following list looks at just three matches that happened at last week's WrestleMania event that should be handed a rematch at Backlash and two that shouldn't.

#5. WrestleMania rematch that should happen: Bianca Belair vs Sasha Banks for the SmackDown Women's Championship

Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks stole the show on night one of WrestleMania 37 and The EST of WWE was able to lift her first World Championship in the company. Belair and Banks told an incredible story throughout their main event match and many reviews have suggested this was one of the best WrestleMania main events in the history of the event.

Belair wasn't handed a new challenger on SmackDown this past week, even though it appears former Champion Bayley wants to get back into the title picture. It could be a solution for WWE to allow Belair to defend her title against The Role Model on SmackDown in the coming weeks. If Banks gets involved in the match then it could lead to a rematch at WrestleMania Backlash.

Even though Banks lost her Championship at WrestleMania, WWE doesn't grant automatic rematches for losing Champions anymore. This means that even though Banks was visibly upset, she needs to earn her rematch.

Banks and Belair could steal the show at WrestleMania Backlash once again and finally bring their storyline to an end. This can only happen if the company allows the two women to have the rematch the WWE Universe has been waiting for, although this time the women probably won't main event.

#4. WrestleMania Rematch that shouldn't happen: Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler vs Natalya and Tamina - WWE Women's Tag Team Championships

Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler were able to retain their Women's Tag Team Championships as part of their WrestleMania match against Tamina and Natalya.

The Women's Tag Team Championship was one of the low points of the night after the Tag Team Turmoil match from the night before had already set quite the tone for the Women's Division and made headlines for the wrong reasons.

The storyline between the four women has continued since WrestleMania after Natalya and Baszler faced off this past week on SmackDown with Tamina and Jax present. It could be argued that Nattie and Tamina deserved to win the Championships at WrestleMania and have their WrestleMania moment.

It would perhaps be better for WWE to allow the two women to have their rematch on an episode of SmackDown in the coming weeks, so that the Women's Tag Team Championships earn more of a spotlight on television, as opposed to a pay-per-view.

#3. WrestleMania rematch that should happen: Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn

Ad

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn faced off as part of Night Two of WrestleMania 37 and Zayn was able to bring Logan Paul with him to the show.

This past week on SmackDown, Zayn blamed Logan Paul for being a distraction throughout his WrestleMania match, which was apparently why he lost to Kevin Owens. Zayn has continued to push his story about there being a conspiracy against him in WWE and the reasons he continues to lose matches.

This past week on SmackDown, Owens and Zayn faced off again and it appears that the more Zayn loses, the more it appears that his story holds weight.

At some point Kevin Owens has to see that there likely is a conspiracy and go on to help his friend. Hopefully if the two stars are once again given the chance to steal the show at WrestleMania Backlash, then this could be the place for the realization to happen.

Zayn and Owens are a safe pair of hands and would definitely put on a show-stealing match in less than a month's time.

#2. WrestleMania rematch that shouldn't happen: The Fiend vs Randy Orton

Ad

The Fiend finally made his return at Fastlane in order to take part in his hotly anticipated match against Randy Orton at WrestleMania. Much to the surprise of the WWE Universe, their match kicked off Night Two of WrestleMania and wasn't quite the bout that was expected.

It appears The Fiend and Randy Orton could now have finished their feud, after Orton became the first man to defeat The Fiend on two separate occasions. At present, Alexa Bliss looks to have turned on The Fiend and that could be the main storyline for Bray Wyatt moving forward on RAW.

Orton looked to step back into the WWE Championship picture this week on RAW but was unsuccessful. It's unclear where Orton goes from here, but there's no need for the former 14-time World Champion to circle back to The Fiend.

There were rumors the two men could have had their hotly anticipated cinematic match at WrestleMania Backlash, but hopefully that isn't the case.

#1. WrestleMania rematch that should happen: Cesaro vs Seth Rollins

Ad

Cesaro was able to pick up his first singles victory at WrestleMania last weekend when he defeated former World Champion Seth Rollins. The former Tag Team Champion gained quite the boost from this on SmackDown when he was able to step up to Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

Of course, The Tribal Chief believed Cesaro was beneath him and refused to give him the match he felt he deserved. But Cesaro was able to take on 'Main Event' Jey Uso. Many fans believed this was finally Cesaro's chance to be pushed into the main Championship picture, but Seth Rollins' involvement in the match meant that this wasn't the case.

Cesaro now needs to face Rollins at WrestleMania Backlash next month and pick up his second victory over The Messiah in order to end their story. This is the only way The Swiss Superman will be able to chase the Universal Championship in the future without Rollins ensuring he's unable to win the title.
