There are several WWE stars who have not yet appeared in a Royal Rumble match

Top 5 WWE Superstars who have surprisingly never been in a Royal Rumble Match

The annual Royal Rumble pay-per-view is less than two weeks away, and it could contain some interesting shocks and surprises. Over the years, there have been some incredible Royal Rumble entrants, including Edge's shock return at last year's show and AJ Styles' debut in 2016.

As of this writing, only a fraction of the 30 men and women have been announced for their respective Royal Rumble Matches. As a result, there is plenty of room for surprise returns and entrants in both bouts.

Though many of the stars on this list have been with the company for several years, none of them have competed in a Royal Rumble Match yet. Could 2021 be the year that these stars are finally used in the prestigious contest?

Shane McMahon has been a prominent part of WWE for several decades, though at one point, he took a break from the company for several years.

He has competed in various matches, and he was an entrant in The Greatest Royal Rumble Match. But the former WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champion has never competed in a traditional Royal Rumble Match.

Shane McMahon has pulled off some immense stunts in the name of entertainment. As The Chairman's son, he has been involved with numerous top storylines throughout his career. It's hard to believe that he has never had the chance to enter the Royal Rumble and fight for a championship match at WrestleMania.

McMahon is currently taking a hiatus from WWE after RAW Underground was seemingly canceled last year. It's unknown whether the show will be brought back in some capacity later this year. Several stars who were part of the program have also been missing from WWE TV since the show was axed.

"Shane-O-Mac" has a lot of power in WWE, so he could pitch an angle where he returns at the Royal Rumble to participate in the Road to WrestleMania. McMahon has already had one of the best surprise returns of all time, and he could add another stunning appearance return to his career if he finally enters his first Royal Rumble Match.

#4. Lars Sullivan has never competed in the annual Royal Rumble Match

Surprisingly, the 2021 Royal Rumble is right around the corner, but Lars Sullivan's name seemingly hasn't been brought up in any discussions. In the past, monsters have been quite successful in this battle royal, as Kane and Braun Strowman have broken Royal Rumble records.

Sullivan has had several personal issues and injuries since his call-up to the main roster. As a result, he has only competed in a handful of matches on WWE RAW and WWE SmackDown. "The Freak" most recently returned to WWE TV ahead of the WWE Draft in October. He could have been in contention for a spot in the Royal Rumble Match, but he has disappeared from WWE programming.

At the moment, it's hard to tell what WWE has planned for Sullivan. But if the company still wants "The Freak" to make an impact, then the Royal Rumble Match could be the perfect place to bring him back.

Sullivan's main roster run has been derailed by some bad luck. But 2021 could be the turning point in his career. He could finally become a breakout star this year, and this progression could begin at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

Rousey hasn't been seen in WWE for almost two years. But she has recently been training with her husband, Travis Browne. Rumors have suggested that Rousey could be looking to make her return to WWE. Could the former champion be set to compete in the Women's Royal Rumble Match this year?

#2. Humberto Carrillo has never been part of a Royal Rumble match

Humberto Carrillo is another WWE star who hasn't been part of a Royal Rumble match. The star was once seen as a prospect in WWE when he came up to the main roster and was aligned with Rey Mysterio. The former Cruiserweight has seemingly fallen out of favor in recent months and has found a new home on Main Event.

Carrillo and his cousin Angel Garza were once part of an interesting feud on WWE TV, but both men are now in dire need of a kickstart to their career after a few months of not being used.

Humberto Carrillo is relatively new to the main roster so it's not that hard to believe that he hasn't been used to make up the numbers at a Royal Rumble in recent years.

This year, WWE could decide to finally allow the star to make his presence known and debut inside the 30-man match. It's the kickstart that his career needs and it would also allow him to pick up a feud inside the match to then continue on Monday Night RAW.

#1. Former Divas Champion Paige was never given the chance to perform in a Royal Rumble

Paige sadly missed out on the Women's Royal Rumble back in 2018 after the former Divas Champion announced her retirement from the ring following an injury in the weeks prior.

Paige was one of the women who had pushed for a Women's Revolution and had been a major part of the history that the women had been able to make, but sadly her career was cut short. This meant that the British star was unable to be part of the historic Women's Royal Rumble match and hasn't been able to take part since.

Despite her injury, WWE could find a way to include Paige in the match and make it safe for her to do a quick back and forth before being eliminated. The former Champion hasn't been seen on WWE TV in a long time and the rest, much like with Edge, could have done her injury a lot of good.

Hopefully, 2021 begins with a story of hope with Paige being added to her first Women's Royal Rumble match.
