WWE Rumors: WWE doubling up on contract offers?

What's the story?

WWE is supposedly going to offer bigger deals to their talent roster as a means to keep them in the company, along with sweetening up the pot for other wrestlers to come in and sign with the organization.

In case you didn't know...

This perhaps comes in the wake of wrestlers such as Cody Rhodes starting up All Elite Wrestling, along with the likes of Chris Jericho, Juice Robinson, and other talents from around the globe leaving for AEW, NJPW and other promotions. WWE wants to tighten their grip on their own talent by offering up better deals as a way to persuade their talent to stay on board, along with offering talents from all over to sign with the company as well.

The heart of the matter

According to the Wrestling Observer(via WrestlingNews), Vince McMahon and the WWE are doubling up on their offers. The idea is if a Superstar is offered any amount of money on their contract from a rival promotion (i.e. AEW, NJPW, etc.), the company will double the offer as an incentive to keep them on board.

This comes in response to former WWE Superstars Chris Jericho leaving NJPW for AEW, as WWE did not offer him enough on his contract and he would go on to say his new deal with AEW is the "best one he's ever signed". It's also to note that such wrestlers like Juice Robinson signed a new deal with NJPW for two years, including a pay raise. The Wrestling Observer is also saying WWE doesn't want their Superstars to think the grass is greener on the other side by grabbing bigger contractual deals elsewhere, benefits, and so on. Therefore they want to push harder on their own deals in terms of keeping their talent under their umbrella.

What's next?

If the rumors are true, this is an interesting strategy from the WWE. Financially, the company still has deep pockets, so to speak, but they cannot afford to make too many risky moves either.

The next set of major WWE events will be taking place live from Phoenix, Az on January 26th and 27th, respectively, with "NXT TakeOver: Phoenix" and the most exciting pay-per-view of the year, the "Royal Rumble".
