WWE SmackDown: 3 things WWE cleverly told us through Randy Orton pinning Kofi Kingston

WWE has provided us with a great week of action as after a brilliant Extreme Rules, both Raw and SmackDown Live were pretty solid. While Raw was much better from the entertainment point of view, SmackDown was pretty fast-paced. Eric Bischoff started making his backstage presence felt on the show straight away as almost all Superstars got a fair share of screen time with new and exciting storylines.

SmackDown Live started with a bang as Shane McMahon's Town Hall meeting didn't go according to the plan with Kevin Owens once again landing a Stunner on the Best in the World. We also saw WWE tease a feud for the Intercontinental Championship between Shinsuke Nakamura and Ali.

We also saw Ember Moon being involved in the SmackDown Women's Championship program. Charlotte and Andrade also made their respective returns. One thing though that really took everyone by surprise was Randy Orton pinning Kofi Kingston to win the six-man tag team match involving The New Day and the team of Orton, Samoa Joe, and Elias.

So, in this slideshow, we are going to take a look at the three things that WWE cleverly told us through Orton pinning Kofi:

#3 Randy Orton might be the next challenger to Kofi Kingston's WWE Championship

The Viper

That's the most obvious thing that WWE could have meant by this. Orton was involved in the 10-man battle royal on Raw and was one of the last two men. He came very close to becoming the #1 contender for Brock Lesnar's Universal title but was the last man eliminated by eventual winner Seth Rollins. Orton has clearly put that loss behind him already as from the looks of it, The Viper could be the next challenger for Kofi Kingston's WWE Championship.

Again, it would be a heel against a face and most of the WWE Universe would be up for this feud. Orton is clearly not the best of the challenges that Kofi has faced since WrestleMania but it would be worthwhile to see two old foes back in the ring battling each other.

#2 Samoa Joe might be out of the WWE Championship picture

Frankly speaking, every wrestling fan might be feeling pretty sad for Samoa Joe as he hasn't been very smartly booked by WWE. Every title opportunity he gets, he is made to eat the pin and not only has that decreased his momentum but it also has made his character less believable.

Joe is known for playing mind games and making personal threats to his opponents but what good are those when he is meant to lose every match. That might be the case again as after losing to Kofi Kingston on Extreme Rules, Joe might be pushed down into the mid-card and will definitely be out of the WWE Championship picture.

#1 Kofi Kingston's feud with Randy Orton might be down to KofiMania's gradual downfall

KofiMania has lost a bit of momentum lately

Yes, there can't be any better reason for why WWE would book Randy Orton against Kofi Kingston. After WrestleMania 35, Kofi has defended his title against some premier WWE Superstars but for some reason, his title reign has felt a bit underwhelming.

Also, he isn't getting the same crowd support that he got in the build-up to WrestleMania 35 and its immediate aftermath. So, Vince McMahon and Eric Bischoff might be hoping that Orton's experience might help in making Kofi's Championship reign gain momentum.

Orton is a very skilled performer and he knows how to draw reactions from the crowd. So you can see what WWE is trying to achieve with this feud and one really hopes that it will succeed.
