Hailing from Karnal, Haryana, Riddhi Phore, an accomplished archer and a TOPS development athlete, is eagerly anticipating her first-ever participation in the Khelo India University Games (KIUG).
Having secured two gold medals and one bronze in her previous five appearances at the Khelo India Youth Games, Riddhi is excited about this new opportunity. The Khelo India University Games 2022 is set to take place across four cities in Uttar Pradesh, namely Lucknow, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, and Gautam Buddh Nagar.
Currently in her second year pursuing a BA degree at Kurukshetra University in Haryana, Riddhi is making preparations to travel to Lucknow by May 28 for the Khelo India University Games 2022 Uttar Pradesh.
She sees this event as a crucial stepping stone towards her ultimate goal, which is to use the platform to prepare for the upcoming Asia Cup scheduled to be held in Singapore from June 5th this year. With aspirations of performing well at the Khelo India University Games, Riddhi aims to fine-tune her skills and gain valuable experience ahead of the prestigious Asia Cup.
Riddhi Phore: From Haryana to the Khelo India University Games
Ahead of her big tournament, Riddhi said:
“I am very excited about participating in my first KIUG. It feels like, I’ve grown up and school is a thing of the past. Now I am going to participate and compete with adults. Archery is not new to me and I would like to use this platform to prepare myself for the Asia Cup.”
Riddhi's notable achievement of being included in the Target Olympic Podium Scheme list during the Tokyo Olympics camp in 2021 has brought her great fortune.
Adding to her excitement is the fact that the complete women's team representing Kurukshetra University has also secured qualification. Consisting of four talented girls, the team will actively participate in both individual and team events at the upcoming competition.
When discussing her training regimen, Riddhi currently hones her skills at the SAI National Centre of Excellence located in Sonepat.
“Due to a shoulder injury, I could not perform well in the All-India Inter-University Games held in Bhatinda, but now I want to make up for that in Lucknow at the Khelo India University Games 2022 Uttar Pradesh.”
When inquired about her anticipations regarding the level of competition in her debut at the Khelo India University Games (KIUG), Riddhi responded,
“I know that only those who have participated in the nationals will be seen competing here. Participants will come from all over India but as someone who has represented India internationally, I am not concerned about the level of competition, I just think about my performance and prepare accordingly.”
Regarding Khelo India University Games, Riddhi said:
“Be it Khelo India Youth Games or University Games – every sporting discipline behind whom the games name is attached, the sport automatically becomes bigger. As far as I am concerned, this platform is new for me but the atmosphere here will not be new as I have played five times in the Khelo India Youth Games. I want to use this great platform to raise the level of my game and like always, win Gold.”
Riddhi is an accomplished player who devotes seven to eight hours each day to practice. She has proudly represented India on the senior national team and showcased her skills at various prestigious events. In the Junior Asia Cup held in Phuket last year, Riddhi excelled and secured two silver medals for her team.
Following her success, she competed in the Senior National from Haryana in March 2022, emerging as a gold medalist. Eager to continue her journey, Riddhi then participated in the trials for the Asian Games, held at SAI Sonepat.
