The World Archery Federation is all set to host the first stage of the Archery World Cup in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China, starting on Tuesday, April 23, with over 300 top archers from around the globe competing.
After Shanghai, the second stage of the World Cup moves to Yecheon, South Korea, in May 2024 before the final stage is held in Antalya, Turkey, in June 2024. Based on the archers’ performance in the first two stages, the team for the third stage of the World Cup will be selected.
Notably, the Antalya meet will be the final qualifying campaign for recurve archers before the Paris Olympics 2024. It’s important to note that India’s eight-member squad in recurve archery will also likely be the provisional squad for the mega event in Paris.
India will be having a 16-member team in the first stage of the World Cup - eight men and eight women, which will end on Saturday, April 28. Three-time Olympian Deepika Kumari will be leading the Indian contingent.
Deepika Kumari, Bhajan Kaur, Ankita Bhakat, and Komalika Bari are in the recurve women’s team. Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai, Mrinal Chauhan, and Pravin Jadhav are part of the men’s recurve squad. However, two-time Olympian Atanu Das is not part of the team.
In the non-Olympic compound archery, Avneet Kaur, Parneet Kaur, Aditi Gopichand Swami, and Jyothi Surekha Vennam are in the Indian women’s team. Abhishek Verma, Rajat Chauhan, Priyansh, and Prathamesh Fuge are part of the men’s compound archery squad.
Importantly, the winners of the individual events will directly qualify for the Archery World Cup Final, scheduled to be held in Tlaxcala, Mexico, in October 2024.
