Rio Paralympics 2016, India Archery: Pooja Khanna loses to Poland's Milena Olszewska 6-2 in Women's Individual Recurve Round of 32 match

India’s sole archer at the Rio Paralympics – Pooja Khanna

One of the last few Indian athletes remaining at the Rio Paralympic Games, archer Pooja Khanna, failed to win her Round of 32 match against Poland’s Milena Olszewska as she lost inside four sets with a scoreline of 6-2. This ends the Paralympic journey for the Indian who had to beat the Polish archer to advance to the Round of 16 of the tournament.

Previously, the archer had finished at the 29th spot from a total of 32 athletes which pit her against Poland’s Olszewska, who had finished the Ranking Round at the fourth spot.

The match started with the Polish winning the first set with a scoreline of 25-22 in her favour as she was always the favourite to win the match and advance to the next round. In the second round, the Indian needed to make a breakthrough as she was trailing by 2 points.

However, that could not happen as Khanna could only score 21 points to Olszewska’s 23. The score became 4-0 in the Polish’s favour as she was dominating the proceedings. But the Indian did not give up as she took the third set with a scoreline of 25-24 as the overall points were still in the Polish’s favour 4-2.

The fourth set was crucial as the Indian needed to win the set to go level on points with Oleszewska in order take the match into the fifth round. But it was the Polish archer who won the fourth set with a score of 23-22 and won the match by 6-2. Thus, the Polish advances to the Round of 16 match whereas, Khanna, on the other hand, will have to take her flight back home as she could not defeat her opponent.
