World Archery Championships 2013: Deepika Kumari qualifies in 10th place in individual recurve

India’s leading archer Deepika Kumari qualified for the elimination stage of the women’s individual recurve event with a 10th placed finish in the qualification round on Monday.

From a total of 144 arrows that all archers shot, Deepika managed a total of 1,345 points to finish 10th. Korea’s Bo Bae Ki took top honours in qualification with a score of 1,376 points. It was a struggle for all three women in the recurve events as the other two members of the contingent fared much worse and failed to even finish remotely near the qualifying places.

Dola Banerjee finished 49th with 1,300 points while Chekrovolu Swuro finished 71st on 1,283 points.

In the team event, the women finished in 12th place with 3,928 points. Korea again were the top team here with a score of 4,106 points.

There was better news for the women in the compound event as Jyothi Surekha Vennam finished 6th in qualifying with a score of 684 points while Trisha Deb also clinched berth in the elimination stage finishing 15th with a score of 680 points.

Jhano Hansdah though could only finish 69th with a score of 645.

In the team event, the trio shot a score of 2,009 points which enabled them to qualify in 10th place.

In the men’s compound event, Abhishek Verma finished the highest in 31st position with a score of 698 points. The men managed to qualify in the compound team event though in 13th place with a score of 2,082 points.
