Born on June 8, 1993, Deanna Marie Price is an American track and field athlete who specializes in the hammer throw. In the 2021 US Olympic trials, Price smashed the national record followed by a personal best throw of 80.31 meters (263 feet, 5 inches) in the hammer. She was the second-best female thrower in history after the throw.


Price set a new world record for women in the indoor 25-pound hammer-style weight throw in February 2021. Price, a former athlete for Southern Illinois University, threw the weight 85-4½, shattering Gwen Berry's previous record of 83-11½ from 2017

2011-2012

During the 2011-2012 season at Southern Illinois University, DeAnna Price earned Second-team All-American honors in the hammer throw. She secured 10th place at the NCAA Championships and qualified for regional and national competitions. Competing in five events over 17 meets, Price achieved seven top-three finishes including a weight throw victory at the Iowa State Classic. She also participated at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona.


2012-2013

In her 2012-2013 season, DeAnna Price earned All-American honors in the hammer throw with a personal record that ranked 18th-best in the U.S. for 2013. Her weight throw mark of 20.23m placed her 10th all-time at Southern Illinois University. Price became the first Saluki female to win any variation of All-American honors in her first two seasons, joining SIU legends Bill Cornell, Oscar Moore, and Michael Franks.


Price finished fifth as an NCAA Regional Qualifier in the hammer throw. She also competed in the USATF Outdoor Championships in the hammer throw. At the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championships, she was the runner-up in the hammer throw and also scored in the weight throw (fifth place) and shot put (sixth place) at the MVC Indoor Championships. Her NCAA qualifying mark of 65.04m in the hammer throw is the fourth-best throw in SIU history.


Price won the weight throw title at the Illini Classic and never finished worse than fifth in the weight throw all season. In the hammer throw, she claimed victory at the Bill Cornell Spring Classic and consistently placed in the top three except at the NCAA West Regional and NCAA Championships where she finished fifth and eighth, respectively. Price posted personal bests in the indoor shot put (14.89m) and outdoor shot put (15.02m).


2013-2014

During the 2013-14 season, DeAnna Price ranked fourth all-time at Southern Illinois University for the shot put and seventh for the weight throw. She was named MVC Field Athlete of the Week twice (2018 & 2022) and held SIU's highest shot put mark of the season with a personal best of 16.29m at the Saluki Open. Price secured two first-place finishes each in the weight throw and shot put during the indoor season and placed fifth in the weight throw at the MVC Indoor Championships. Competing in six indoor meets, she excelled in both events and was named to the MVC Academic Honor Roll.


2014-2015

In the 2014-2015 season, DeAnna Price won the NCAA Championship in the hammer throw with a meet record throw of 71.49m. She finished second at the USATF Championships with a throw of 72.30m making her the third-best individual hammer thrower in NCAA history. She placed fourth in the hammer throw at the Pan American Games and qualified for the IAAF World Championships where she finished 18th overall with a throw of 68.69m.


In the Indoors, Price earned All-American honors in the weight throw, finishing third at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a personal-best mark of 22.04m. She won the MVC Indoor Championship in the weight throw with a throw of 21.06m. She secured four weight throw titles throughout the season, including victories at the Fred Wilt Invitational, SIU Invitational, and Vanderbilt Invitational. Price finished in the top three in all seven indoor meets. She also competed in the shot put at six indoor meets with her highest finish being second at the SIU Invitational.


In the Outdoors, Price won three event titles in the hammer throw and one in the discus. At the MVC Outdoor Championships, she finished first in the hammer throw, third in the discus, and fourth in the shot put, earning All-MVC honors in both the hammer and discus. She set a personal best in the discus with a throw of 53.46m at the MVC Outdoor Championships and achieved a PR in the shot put with a throw of 16.30m at the Mt. SAC Relays. In the hammer throw, Price finished in the top three in seven of eight outdoor meets.

Price was named MVC Field Athlete of the Week twice and earned a spot on the MVC Honor Roll.


2015-2016

During her 2015-2016 season, DeAnna Price became a 2016 U.S. Olympian in the hammer throw. Price placed third at the U.S. Olympic Trials and set a U.S. collegiate record with a throw of 239'-09" (73.09m). She was crowned NCAA Champion in the hammer throw for the second consecutive year becoming the fifth woman in NCAA history to achieve back-to-back titles.


At the MVC, she won the hammer throw and shot put earning the title of the MVC Most Outstanding Field Athlete. She was a six-time MVC Field Athlete of the Week and a Bowerman Award Semifinalist recognizing her as one of the nation's top track and field athletes. Her remarkable season included a streak of 11-straight event titles beginning with her first NCAA Championship win and ending with her second.


Price's accomplishments also included setting the American Collegiate record with a throw of 238'-5" (72.66m) at the Southern Clash meet and achieving 19 throws of 230 feet or further, the most in a single season in NCAA history. Alongside Gwen Berry, Price became one of the first U.S. Olympians from SIU since Connie Price-Smith in 2000.
