Ghana will have only one representation at the World Athletics Championships in Moscow this month, Bawa Fuseini, general secretary of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA), said here.
He said Wednesday that Ghanaian sprinter Janet Amponsah was selected for the Aug 10-18 championships based on her performance, reports Xinhua.
Amponsah was entered by the Ghana Athletics Association before July 15 after qualifying as a wild card.
Last year, Amponsah was fifth in the women’s 200 metres finals at the 2012 World Junior Athletics championships in Spain after recording her personal best of 23.41 seconds.
She said she was prepared to do her best to win laurels for the country.
“I’m just going there to do my best for the country but I know it won’t be easy,” she told the local media.
At the 2011 World Championship in Daegu, South Korea, Ghana entered seven athletes in four events – long jump, heptathlon, 100m and 4x100m.
The 14th IAAF World Championship will be the largest global sporting event of the year, with the nine-day event expected to reach a cumulative audience of more than five billion TV viewers.
