Late athlete Jesse Owens's biopic "Race" will hit the Indian screens on March 11.

"Race", starring Stephan James, is a biographical sports drama film based on the story of Owens, whose quest to become the greatest track and field athlete in history thrusts him onto the world stage of the 1936 Olympics.

"I don't think it's possible to do full justice to Jesse Owens's life in a two-hour movie. By honing in on the years 1934 to 1936, we see him mature from a talented runner into a worldwide champion.

“The time frame of his accomplishment was also of great dramatic interest; it could not have happened before or after because of certain advances in technology and because of the rise of Fascism in Europe," the film's director Stephen Hopkins said.

A statement from the distributors of the movie in India, Star Entertainment, Luv Films and Muviwale Entertainment, read: "This is a big production about a real hero and a true story: Jesse Owens was recognized in his lifetime as "perhaps the greatest and most famous athlete in track and field history..."

"At the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany, Owens won international fame with four gold medals: 100 metres, 200 metres, long jump and 4 × 100-metre relay. He was the most successful athlete at the Olympic Games! This is what makes the film a must-watch and we are proud to present this in India!"
