MOSCOW, Aug 14 (IANS) All-Russia Athletic Federation (ARAF) President Dmitry Shlyakhtin has said long jumper Darya Klishina was banned from competing in the ongoing Rio Olympics.

"There are contradictory reports but we have confirmation from sources in Rio de Janeiro that Dasha was banned at the last moment," Shlyakhtin said on Saturday, reports Tass.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne has received the appeal filed by Klishina who was banned from competing in the Rio Games by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), CAS Secretary General Matthieu Reeb said on Saturday.

"We confirm the appeal but can provide no other comments at this moment," Reeb said.

Klishina has said that she is clean.

"I am a clean athlete, and I proved it repeatedly," Klishina wrote on her Facebook page on Saturday.

"I will make every possible effort to defend my reputation of a clean athlete. I feel like I was deceived by the system which is not aimed at maintaining sports clean, in which athletes win outside of sports arenas," she added.

Klishina's fate will be resolved by Monday, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) said on Saturday.

"She was stripped of the exclusive admission (to the Rio Olympics) on the basis of new information received last week. The athlete appealed this decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport which will satisfy or reject her appeal," the IAAF said in a statement.

"The verdict on her case will be reached either on Sunday or on Monday. August 15 is the deadline for making a final decision regarding her participation in the Olympics."
