SAG record holders Deepak and Baikuntha receive Rs 2.5 million each

The Nepal government felicitated South Asian Games (SAG) record holders Deepak Bista (Taekwondo) and Baikuntha Manandhar (Athletics) with a cash incentive of 2.5 million Nepalese rupees each.

They were awarded the cash incentive as per the government´s earlier decision to provide Rs 2.5 million under the policy to award cash incentive to three or more gold medal winners of the SAG.

Taekwondo star Deepak Bista is the first and only athlete to win four SAG gold medals in the South Asian region. He is the most successful Nepalese player with four consecutive SAG gold medals. He has won the Taekwondo gold in 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th SAG from 1999-2011.

Likewise, marathoner Baikuntha Manandhar is the SAG record holder in marathon and had won three consecutive gold medals in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd SAG. His record of 2 hours 15 minutes 03 seconds to complete the long distance race of 42.195 km in the third edition in Calcutta SAG (1987) is still unbeaten and unchallenged.
