Ankara (Turkey), Aug 28 (IANS) The disciplinary board of the Turkish Athletics Federation (TAF) has suspended former European 100m hurdles champion Nevin Yanit for two years due to doping violations.

Yanit was referred to the TAF’s disciplinary board after she tested positive last February, adding that the national athlete appealed the decision and another test was conducted, also showing Yanit used illegal substances, reports Xinhua.

According to the TAF disciplinary board Wednesday, Yanit was suspended from all competitions for two years.

“The IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) had informed us that Nevin Yanit’s sample taken at the event in Dusseldorf Feb 8 tested positive for a banned substance,” read a TAF statement.

“After her B sample also tested positive, the Disciplinary Board asked for Yanit’s defence and decided to ban the athlete for two years following deliberations,” it added..

Earlier this month, the board suspended 31 other athletes for using banned substances.

Turkish athletics has been shaken by numerous doping scandals recently with TAF president Mehmet Terzi stepping down last month.
