Born on March 21, 1996, in Edwards, Colorado, Valerie Constien is an American professional track and field athlete specializing in the 3000-meter steeplechase and mile events. Constien grew up in Vail with her parents, Ron and Ann Constien. She is a graduate of Battle Mountain High School, displaying early talent in soccer, track and field, and Nordic skiing in her high school. She contributed to three consecutive 4A Western Slope League Championships in track and cross country.

Constien joined the University of Colorado where she represented the Colorado Buffaloes. She was under the mentorship of esteemed coaches Mark Wetmore and Heather Burroughs. She achieved notable accolades, including a spot on the 2018 All-American First Team for the steeplechase and the 2018 All-American Cross Country team where she finished 30th in the nation.

Constien earned a spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in 2021. She secured her place by finishing third in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the U.S. Olympic Trials and setting a personal best of 9:18.34. She competed valiantly and placed 12th in the event at the Olympics final. Val Constien achieved a personal record of 9:03.22 in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the 2024 United States Olympic Trials in Eugene. She also recorded a remarkable time of 8:41.77 in the 3000 meters the same year. She currently trains with the Nike Club.
