Caitlin Clark led the Iowa Hawkeyes to a stunning 77-73 win over the undefeated South Carolina Gamecocks in the NCAA Women's Final Four on Friday. Clark finished with 41 points, six rebounds and eight assists to lead Iowa to their first championship game.
The Hawkeyes built an early lead in the first quarter before the Gamecocks came back in the second. It was a back-and-forth battle in the second half, but Clark was clearly unstoppable. She has now scored 40 or more points in back-to-back games.
Iowa is now one win away from their first NCAA championship. They have all the momentum heading into the title game on Sunday against LSU. Not only did they end South Carolina's 42-game winning streak, they also dethroned the reigning champions.
Caitlin Clark shot just 5-for-17 from beyond the arc but went 15-for-31 from the field. She was 6-for-6 from the free-throw line and was simply too good for South Carolina.
Clark might have struggled from the three but had her way in the paint. She also made the right passes to her teammates early in the game. South Carolina coach Dawn Staley had nothing but praise for Clark in her postgame interview.
"She was on point," Staley said. "I mean, she was everything that we saw on film. She was everything, like assists, points, turnovers, all of them. She ran the gamut of who she is as a player, and she threaded the needle."
