News: Anand,Carlsen to square off again at Zurich Chess Challenge

Newly crowned World Champion, Noway’s Magnus Carlsen, will play former champion, India’s Vishwanathan Anand, for the first time after their World Championship match in Chennai when they will be part of a strong 6-man field for the 2014 Zurich Chess Challenge.

The tournament will also feature Levon Aronian(Armenia), Hikaru Nakamura (USA), Fabiano Caruana (Italy) and Boris Gelfand (Israel). The tournament will take place from 29th January to 4th February 2014 and with an average rating of 2794 Elo points, it will be the strongest tournament in chess history.

The 2014 tournament will be the 3rd edition of the Zurich Chess Challenge. The first edition in 2012 saw a match between Vladimir Kramnik and Levon Aronian which ended in a 3-3 draw after 6 games. The 2013 edition was a double-round robin with Kramnik, Anand, Caruana and Gelfand with Italian Fabiano Caruana emerging victorious.

All games of the 2014 tournament will be commented by Yannick Pelletier and Werner Hug and broadcast live via Internet.
