Senior guard Aneesah Morrow recorded her 80th career double-double, leading No. 7 LSU to a dramatic 68-67 comeback win over Washington in the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championship on Monday. Morrow posted 19 points, 13 rebounds and two steals, sharing the team’s scoring lead with Flau’jae Johnson as the Tigers improved to 7-0 on the season.
LSU got off to a sluggish start, scoring just 11 points in the first quarter and falling into an early 13-point hole. Morrow contributed three points in the opening frame but struggled with five missed shots and one missed free throw. The Tigers trailed 36-26 at halftime as their offensive struggles persisted.
Morrow found her rhythm in the second half, adding 10 points and seven rebounds to help spark LSU's rally. Kailyn Gilbert sealed the win with a clutch layup in the final seconds and a critical steal on Washington’s inbound attempt.
Double-doubles are nothing new for Morrow, who recorded 53 during her two seasons at DePaul. Last year, she averaged 16.4 points, 10 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 1.7 assists and 1.1 blocks across 37 games with LSU. This season, Morrow is off to an even stronger start, averaging 18.1 ppg, 13.0 rpg, 2.0 spg and 1.1 apg through seven games.
The Tigers face the NC State Wolfpack next on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. in the second round of the Baha Mar Pink Flamingo Championship, with the game streaming on FloSports.
LSU battles through tough shooting night to edge past Washington
LSU overcame its worst shooting performance of the season to secure a gritty 68-67 win over Washington. Facing a challenging Huskies 3-2 zone defense, the Tigers shot just 33% from the field and a dismal 16% from beyond the arc. In contrast, Washington shot 44% overall and 30% from 3, building a commanding 13-point lead by the end of the first quarter.
However, LSU chipped away at the deficit over the next three quarters, outscoring Washington in each. Free throws played a key role, with LSU converting 15-of-21 attempts compared to Washington’s 7-of-10.
The Tigers also dominated the offensive glass, grabbing 27 offensive rebounds and scoring 26 second-chance points. Rebounding proved decisive, as LSU finished with a 12-rebound edge over the Huskies.
Despite nearly even points off turnovers, LSU’s relentless effort on the boards helped keep the game close and ultimately led to their seventh win of the season.
