Senior guard Caleb Love delivered a standout performance as No. 24 Arizona cruised to a 104-71 victory over Davidson at the Battle 4 Atlantis on Wednesday night, snapping a two-game losing streak.
The 6-foot-4 veteran showcased his versatility, tallying 20 points, five rebounds, four assists, one steal and three 3-pointers in 28 minutes to lead Arizona’s starting lineup. This marked Love’s best game of the season, following back-to-back struggles against Wisconsin and Duke, where he totaled just 14 points, six rebounds and six assists combined.
When asked about the shift in his performance, Caleb Love said:
“Just not going out there worrying about anything, trusting in my teammates, and you know how my teammates and coaches trust in me? I just wanted to go out there and have fun. I said that in a press conference before the game, and that’s exactly what I did, you know, but you know, it wasn’t about me, it was about my team.”
Arizona hit a season-high 56.5% from the field, including 11-for-22 from 3-point range. While only 14 of their 39 made shots came off assists, much of their scoring stemmed from offensive rebounds by Tobe Awaka and quick transition opportunities.
One of those transition moments helped Love shake off his slump, with his first 3-pointer cutting Davidson’s lead to 16-14, igniting his offense after going 1-for-15 from deep in the previous two losses.
Caleb Love scored effectively from both the perimeter and on drives, finishing with 20 points on 7-for-13 shooting and 3-for-7 from beyond the arc. This performance ended an 11-game streak without reaching 20 points, his first such effort since a 13-game stretch to begin his college career.
Caleb Love and Arizona Snap Losing Streak in Commanding Fashion
After double-digit losses to Wisconsin and No. 12 Duke, Arizona rebounded emphatically with a dominant 33-point win over Davidson in the Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis.
Arizona started strong, leading 49-37 at halftime, and built a lead as large as 17 points. Although Davidson cut the deficit to six about 7 1/2 minutes into the second half, Arizona responded by outscoring them 36-9 to close the game.
The Wildcats’ depth was key, with nine players logging at least 14 minutes and seven scoring at least eight points. Transfers Anthony Dell’Orso and Trey Townsend had breakout performances.
Dell’Orso scored 17 points on 8-for-11 shooting, including 5-for-7 from 3-point range, after managing just six field goals and one 3-pointer in his first four games. Townsend added 17 points on 6-for-11 shooting, including two 3-pointers.
Arizona shot 11-for-22 from beyond the arc, its most efficient performance from deep since the 2023-24 regular-season finale against Oregon. However, the Wildcats’ interior game was the standout, scoring 50 points in the paint after struggling near the basket in their 69-55 loss to Duke last week.
Caleb Love and Arizona now advance to the semifinals, where they face Oklahoma on Friday. The Wildcats last played the Sooners in 2010 and hold a 2-5 record against them, including losses in the 1999 and 2002 NCAA Tournaments. The winner will move on to the Battle 4 Atlantis Championship Game on Friday at 4:30 PM MST, while the third-place game is set for Friday at 1:00 PM MST.
