Felix Okpara is set to continue his college basketball career elsewhere after two seasons at Ohio State. The center announced his entry into the transfer portal on Sunday, just three weeks after he pledged his commitment to the Buckeyes on the first day of April.

"Thank you Buckeye Nation for 2 amazing years," Okpara posted on Instagram. "Thank you for embracing me and supporting me through the ups and downs. ... I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to have represented the Scarlet and Gray.
“As I thought of the player I want to become and the program moving forward in a new direction, I believe it is in my best interest to continue my pursuit of my dream at a different school."

Okpara emerged as Ohio State's leading rebounder in the 2023-24 season, averaging 6.4 boards along with 6.6 points per game. The center not only led the Buckeyes in rebounds but also ranked second in blocked shots across the entire Big Ten, averaging 2.4 per game.

We examine Felix Okpara's potential landing spot as he is set to depart Columbus.

Top five landing spots for Felix Okpara

#1, Tennessee

Tennessee reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament for the second time in history in the just-concluded season. The program also claimed the Southeastern Conference regular-season championship, showcasing its growing prowess in the conference.

However, the Volunteers have suffered significant departures via the transfer portal since the conclusion of March Madness. While they will also be active on the portal, Felix Okpara is undoubtedly a good candidate who can help the team defensively.

#2, Penn State

After making a rare appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2023, Penn State didn't return to the postseason in 2024. Nonetheless, the Nittany Lions are committed to becoming a top basketball university, as evidenced by the program’s recruiting effort this offseason.

Continuing his career in the Big Ten obviously comes with many advantages for Felix Okpara. This ensures a smoother transition than going elsewhere. His experience and exploits in the league in the last two years also make him a fantastic option for the Nittany Lions.

#3, NC State

NC State had a remarkable run in the 2024 college basketball postseason. The program secured the ACC Tournament championship and advanced to the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament as an 11th seed. The Wolfpack were undoubtedly the surprise package of last season.

The Wolfpack have seen several players enter the transfer portal with some others expected to declare for the draft. Felix Okpara would be a great replacement for DJ Burns should the former Winthrop center enter the 2024 NBA draft.

#4, West Virginia

West Virginia is another Big Ten option for Felix Okpara. The program is another destination where his transition can be smooth and seamless. He could be a candidate for the team as the Mountaineers have been active with the portal this offseason.

The Mountaineers have made inconsistent appearances in the NCAA Tournament over the years, appearing in two since making the Sweet 16 in 2018. They were not in March Madness this season. Nonetheless, they want to be a top program, and Okpara can help achieve that.

#5, Arkansas

John Calipari was hired by Arkansas earlier this month, and the veteran coach is focused on constructing a formidable roster for the Razorbacks after his unexpected move to the program. The coach made the transition to Fayetteville after a 15-year tenure at Kentucky.

With his exploits in the Big Ten last season, Felix Okpara can be a solid player in the Arkansas rebuild. His proven talent could make him a portal target for Calipari.
