Aaliyah Crump, the No. 5 recruit in the Class of 2025 (as per On3's Industry Rankings), finished her high school basketball career at Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida. The 6-foot-1 shooting guard received over 15 offers from programs across the nation.
However, she committed to the Texas Longhorns on July 9, 2024, and signed her letter of intent on Nov. 13, 2024.
Crump also talked about why she chose Texas, emphasizing their education.
"I chose Texas women's basketball because from day one the coaches made the program feel like home to me," Crump said. "The University of Texas will allow me to play the highest level of basketball and also receive a top-tier education.
Let's have a look at three more colleges that were in contention to sign the Minnesota native before she chose Texas.
3 schools that were interested in Aaliyah Crump
3. Baylor Bears
While Baylor was not in Crump's top three lists, it was a program that sent an offer to the shooting guard. Furthermore, they were strong candidates, getting a 31.3% probability of landing Crump by On3's recruitment prediction machine, behind Ohio State and Texas. She also took an unofficial visit on Jun. 27 last year.
If Crump had signed for the Bears, she would have been their second signing from the Class of 2025. Four-star shooting guard Marcayla Johnson from Booker T. Washington High School signed for the program on Nov. 14.
2. Duke Blue Devils
Aaliyah Crump could have joined a five-star center from Ridgeline High School, Emilee Skinner. However, it did not work out between the program and Crump, even after she included Duke in her top three list of programs.
According to NDNation, the shooting guard took an unofficial visit to the program on Feb. 11, 2024. Duke's alma mater and the projected first pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Cooper Flagg, also played for Montverde Academy.
3. Ohio State Buckeyes
Ohio State was also in Crump's top three list of colleges. She also took an unofficial visit to the program, which was given a 35.8% chance of landing the guard.
However, the program received two hard commitments from players in Crump's position. Four-star Daria Biriuk from The Webb School committed on Oct. 8 and five-star Bryn Martin from Springboro High School committed on May 18 last year.
Aaliyah Crump is the only player signed by Texas from the 2025 Class.
