The Alabama Crimson Tide takes on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in the Players Era Festival Impact Tournament on Wednesday night. The Crimson Tide enter the matchup ranked as the No. 9 team in the country, with a 5-1 record on the season. Alabama is coming off a 100-87 win over No. 6 Houston on Tuesday in the first round of the tournament.

On the other hand, Rutgers is arguably the most exciting unranked team in the country, headlined by freshman stars Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper. The Scarlet Knights are also 5-1 on the season, coming off an 85-84 win over Notre Dame on Tuesday.

This highly anticipated matchup opened with a 41-41 first half, taking a deadlocked tie into the locker rooms at halftime.

A 7-0 run down the stretch of the second half helped propel the Crimson Tide to a 95-90 win over Rutgers. Alabama was led by senior guard Mark Sears, who finished with a game-high 24 points and five assists. Freshman duo Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey combined for 59 of the Scarlet Knights’ 90 points. The Crimson Tide advanced to 6-1 on the season.

Alabama vs. Rutgers: Game Summary

Rutgers and Alabama exchanged baskets throughout the first half. Neither side exceeded a six-point lead, and the game entered halftime with a 41-41 tie. Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey combined for 25 of Rutgers' 41 first-half points.

After opening the second half with a 6-2 run, Rutgers tied the game at 47-47. The second half remained highly contested before Alabama sparked an 11-6 run to widen the margin to 67-59 with 13 minutes remaining. The Scarlet Knights battled back, cutting the lead to 80-78 before the Crimson Tide went on yet another run, scoring eight straight points to extend their lead to 88-80 with three minutes left.

The Crimson Tide held on despite a strong surge late from Rutgers to secure a 95-90 win.
