Allie Quigley's alma mater DePaul shared a heartfelt tribute following her retirement after more than two decades playing basketball at the college and professional level.
Quigley has officially hung up her sneakers and DePaul University, where she first made her mark, took a moment to celebrate her remarkable journey.
Quigley last played professionally in 2022, but she only confirmed her retirement through a personal piece in "The Players Tribune" on Tuesday.
She first arrived at DePaul in 2004 and made a name for herself, earning Big East Freshman of the Year honours in her first season. Over four years, she became a key player for the Blue Demons, helping lift the programme to national relevance.
On Tuesday, DePaul showed its appreciation by posting a tribute on Instagram, alongside memorable pictures from her career.
“From the driveway to the biggest stage, Allie Quigley made basketball better. Congratulations on a phenomenal career ❤️💙,” the caption read.
After four years in college, Quigley entered the 2008 WNBA draft and was selected in the second round as the 22nd overall pick, by the Seattle Storm.
However, it was at Chicago Sky, where she spent the majority of her career, that she enjoyed her best stint. She won a WNBA championship and earned three All-Star selections, while also being recognised as one of the best shooters in the game. Quigley also had stints with the Phoenix Mercury and Indiana Fever.
Allie Quigley reveals when she first started considering retirement
In the same column she announced her retirement, Quigley revealed when she began to get the feeling that the end was near.
“By 2021, I knew I was close to retirement,” she wrote. “Then, of all years, that year we finally won the championship — and I thought for a second, 'Wow.' What a way to go out. But after thinking about it a little more, I realized I actually wanted to savor the end of my career.”
Quigley also revealed that she was ready for the next phase of her life, which is becoming a mom. The guard has been married to current Chicago Sky player Courtney Vandersloot since 2018, and the couple welcomed their daughter, Jana, on April 8, 2025.
