Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark is one of the household names when it comes to women's basketball. The NCAA men's and women's all-time leading scorer started turning heads in her high school year as an all-rounder. The two-time Naismith College Player of the Year was Indiana's first overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
Clark played high school basketball for Dowling Catholic High School, West Des Moines. As a freshman, Clark averaged 15.3 points, 4.7 assists and 2.3 steals per game, leading her team to a 19-5 record and reaching the final of the Class 5A state tournament. She was named in the Class 5A All-State third team from The Des Moines Register.
As a sophomore, Clark improved her stats, ranking second in the state in scoring with 27.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game. She earned the accolade of Central Iowa Metro League Player of the Year. She also led All Iowa Attack in the Nike EYBL championship where she scored 23 points in a 64-61 win against Cal Storm.
In her junior season, Clark was the scoring leader, averaging 32.6 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 3.6 apg and 2.3 spg. She broke the state single-game 3-point record when she made 13 3-pointers in the 60-point game against Mason City.
In her final year in high school, Caitlin Clark was awarded Iowa Gatorade Player of the Year, Des Moines Register All-Iowa Athlete of the Year, and Iowa Miss Basketball after a terrific year where she averaged 33.4 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.7 steals per game, leading the state in scoring again.
What sports did Caitlin Clark play?
Basketball was not the only sport Caitlin Clark excelled at during her high school career. She also played softball, volleyball, soccer, tennis and golf. Iowa Hawkeyes' head coach Jan Jensen heard about the 6-foot-0 guard when she was in sixth grade.
Furthermore, Clark was so skilled during her grade school that she used to play on the boys' team. She made a name for herself in Iowa basketball when she entered middle school.
She was also a starter on her school's soccer team and got named to the Class 3A All-Iowa team after she scored 23 goals in her freshman season.
Clark averaged 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 8.4 assists and 1.3 steals in her rookie WNBA season.
