Matt Painter boasts a fantastic record in the system developed for his big men. Under Painter, Purdue has become a haven for tall centers, with players like Zach Edey, who won the National Player of the Year award twice, and Trevion Williams, who was also a formidable presence in the paint, thriving under his tutelage.

The Boilermakers landed another towering big man last year in Daniel Jacobsen out of Brewster Academy in New Hampshire.

Matt Painter and Purdue get huge boost with their two top scorers returning for another year

Although the Purdue Boilermakers saw a disappointing end to their season after losing to Houston in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, Matt Painter's team is expected to be one of the top teams in the country for the upcoming season.

According to Gary Parrish of CBS Sports, Purdue is ranked No. 4 in his Top 25 and 1, thanks to the return of several top players, including Trey Kaufman-Renn and Braden Smith — the team's first and second-leading scorers last season.

Kaufman-Renn averaged 20.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, shooting 59.5%. Smith racked up 15.8 ppg and 8.7 apg on 42.8% shooting. Daniel Jacobsen, who only played two games last season due to injury, is also expected to be a major contributor next season.

Painter also brought in South Dakota State transfer Oscar Cluff to bolster the frontcourt, along with two incoming freshmen, Antione West and Omer Mayer.
